WebTo fix it, install the Windows (or OSX I expect) desktop app. Connect the reader to the computer and sync it that way. This will get the current firmware on the device and it should start syncing again. If that doesn't work, backup any books you've side loaded via usb from places other than the Kobo store, then do a reset on the device.
