Webb11 feb. 2009 · The Osirion. Immediately behind the Seti Temple is a curious structure known as the Osirion which lies on the main axis of Seti’s temple but at a subterranean level. It was discovered as recently as 1903, and is thought to have been constructed by Seti I and decorated later by his grandson Merenptah. WebbThe Osirion was originally meant to be entered from the Transverse passageway leading from the back of Seti's temple, but at the moment this passageway is not open to the public, and visitors must exit Seti's temple at the rear and approach the Osirion from above at modern ground level.

It is an integral part of Seti I’s funeral complex and is built to resemble an 18th Dynasty Valley of the Kings tomb. It was discovered by archaeologists Flinders Petrie and Margaret Murray who were excavating the site in 1902–3.
